There is a wonderful post on The Website of Unknowing about Lent, and specifically, Ash Wednesday. It provides one of those little phrases that you can hold on to and let permeate your own spirituality.
Remember you are dust, destined for Divinity

Welcome to my moments in an accelerated culture; digital life, publishing and the divine

by DarrenWay back last year I decided that enough was enough, it was time to stop paying a ridiculous amount of money each month to one optician and go to somewhere else much cheaper. Goodbye D&A and hello ASDA.
I had an eye test, got a new prescription and then began the process of finding the right lenses for my eyes. Both my eyes have an astigmatism in and getting the lenses to sit right was a fun experience However, after trial and error, that was sorted. I was about to be signed off, meaning I could bulk buy onlne and save a fortune, when a problem was discovered.
There is some damage occurring to my left eye, nothing serious, but enough to hold off on the sign off. Something at somepoint is causing a reaction in my eye. So for the past few months I have been trying a different cleaning solution and eye drops. I had hoped that this weekend the saga would be over, but nope.
I am now on a different type of lens and cleaning them in peroxide. I haven’t seen peroxide since I went through my albino goth phase in the 80’s. All being well this will show that something in the lens solution was causing a reaction in my eye. If not, I’ll need to go and see a specialist.

by DarrenAnd now I’ll introduce an occasional feature into the show where I talk about things.
I recorded and then watched the stage performance version of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. Since the release of Wayne’s version I have bought it on vinyl and then CD, so thought I’d complete the set and see the live version. Albeit via the wonders of modern technology and Rupert Murdoch.
As I watched I was struck by the fact that the music stands showed the sheet music digitally – gots to get meeself one’o'dem – and the that many of the musicians were older than myself. Moments like that make me feel the urge to pick up the axe and imagine myself beneath the harsh spotlights.
One of the musicians caught my eye, and I recognised Herbie Flowers. Now, despite what Herbie has done in a wonderful career, he will always be to me the bass player on Lou Reed’s seminal album, Transformer. What also caught my eye was him playing bass through half-moon spectacles as he read the music from the digital displays.
I picked up my telecaster and with my contact lenses firmly in place plucked the beginning of A Forest by The Cure from memory. Age has no meaning to me.
