Well, no sooner had I left Durham it flooded. And that theme seems to have followed me this week. Not the flooding but the sunshine and showers: I said theme, not literal reality. I seem to be going through a weird time at the moment, with the positives struggling with the negatives and neither really taking the lead.
One major positive was the release of the new WordLive version. In-house we’ve been calling this 1.5 but that doesn’t really do justice to all the hard work that has been put into it. So if you’d like to see more then head over to a new, more visually appealing WordLive.
The negatives are a lot more personal and one that keeps rearing its head is a lack of focus. There are a lot of things I want to be getting on with but I can’t seem to get myself motivated. The ideas come along, but the ‘get off your backside and do them’ side of things always seems to get ‘rained off’ – that’s the weather theme again.
Still there is much to be thankful for, and in no particular order:
Next week is going to be a very busy one as I try and finish a whole pile of stuff. But all being well I can then kick back a little and implement some of that focus.

In a vain attempt to try and write here a little more often I thought I’d introduce a new regular feature called The Weekly Review. Of course with any new feature there is no structure to follow so I may just make things up as I go along.
I spent quite a lot of last week on the train to and from Durham. The ticket line thought the best route for me was via London, so the journey went south and then north.
In Durham I was at Christianity in the Digital Space. And here are some highlights:
- My room was a long way away from the main hall, so I did a lot of walking
- The food was very nice
- The people I met were really great, and I hope the network keeps connected
- Watching virtual church is very weird
- Tweeting during people’s talks is more fun than it sounds
- About 1 in 5 UK adults don’t have any retention knowledge of Jesus’ resurrection
- Some people still see a division between off and online life
Had a really nice weekend that had the low point of seeing the new Harry Potter film. IMHO this was a very poor adaptation of the book.
Worshipped at the Anglican Cathedral in Second Life on Sunday, to finish the week or start the new one depending on how your diary is set up.
And here are 7 things, in no particular order, I am grateful for this past week:
- Andrew Graystone
- Seesmic desktop
- The battery in my Toshiba laptop
- Train drivers and railtrack
- Baigent
- Adobe Flash
- Cubase
This list isn’t exhaustive, but does represent particular gratefulness.

Next week I’m off to Durham for a few days to take part in the above. It looks like a really interesting discussion group and hopefully will be an inspiration to all who attend.
For those who want to follow what is going on then you can either keep up with the symposium’s blog here or follow what is happening via twitter.
It may be best to use that direct link for twitter, becasue when I searched for the account I was offered a rather amusing alternative
