Life is full of disappointments, call me an eternal pessimist but that is my take on things.
I like:
- the cure
- the colour black
- Ecclesiastes
What better short list if you wanted proof?
Another of life’s disappointments is the continual poor film adaptations of Stephen King books. Aside from The Shinning, I always feel that an opportunity has been missed after the closing credits begin to roll.
So it was with a little trepidation that I sat down to watch The Mist. And, I have to say that most of the film lived up to the typical rendering of King’s work, good but with something lacking. But it was redeemed, in the final few minutes. As I have said previously I am an old Goth at heart, and so when our heroes escaped the supermarket and headed out into the mist and the strains of Dead Can Dance began, my ears, and then eyes, perked up.
I think that the final sequence as the group drive out into the unknown was one of the best scenes I have seen in a long time. The music was wonderful and then as they drove as far as they could the ground began to shake. I can’t say exactly what I liked about the creature that emerged above them, perhaps it was something about its scale, or perhaps its alienesque nature? I’m not sure.
What I am sure of is that this scene, with Dead Can Dance The Host Of Seraphim playing and the alien crossing their path, made the film for me. So if you aren’t adverse to a little late night night horror, this is well worth watching.
