… the latest video from Imaginality shows what you can achieve by spending a little time each day
I am back on a writing journey for April, or am I?
I have signed up and joined a cabin at Camp NaNoWriMo. Camp NaNoWriMo is a little less structured than the main NaNoWriMo in November. It runs several months in the year and gives writers more freedom in what they can write and when.
I was going to use it to rewrite and finish one of my old NaNoWriMo projects but none of them, I felt, were going to challenge me creatively. So I am working on a series of short stories I had very, very loosely thought about, titled Grimly Tales from the Love Grimoire. The stories are adult fairy tales and fables. They include a story about the impossible love between a mermaid and a sailor and another concerning the frustration of Death’s vocation.
Although this is primarily a writing project it will also form the outline of the next This Temple Eden musical release. Grimly Tales will be recorded later this year and feature songs inspired by this writing project. In fact it will be a written and audio collection.
Grimly Tales is my creative challenge for April and to make myself accountable I am aiming to write 20,000 words. This is broken down into ten short stories of at least 2,000 words. I will allow myself to write more, but that is the minimum. Best get on with it then…
I have completed my challenge for March to create 15 pieces of art in one month. I mean art in its broadest sense, which means I can define it (Ha – that could be a cop-out but I think I managed it). Here is everything I made during March 2014.
Most of the material came from iTunes gift cards and / or my contact lens cases. Much white gesso was used, along with paints, pens and the Guardian newspaper. The final piece is a short video. Once again my contact lenses provided the material.
I certainly haven’t created any masterpieces and a little more time would have been nice. However, this is a spare time creative challenge and is meant to push me a little. One thing I will say though, is that most of all I enjoyed myself and perhaps you’ll like a little of what I made.
… are revealed in the latest Imaginality Show episode.
I am busy working on my creative challenge for March. The plan is to create 15 pieces in 31 days. I am well on the way and will do a final update at the end of the month. In the meantime I finished pieces nine and ten today.
I made a little concertina book from scrap paper. I wanted to explore the concept that a book is more than just turning from one page to the next. Of course, there weren’t many pages or words, but it was the thought that counted. It also fits nicely into one of the previous pieces I made, as can be seen in the first image.
The next piece was created from some old paper and the leaflet from a packet of paracetamol. Not sure if it really works, but have wanted to do something like this for a while. I think it will look better photocopied and in a zine… now there’s a creative challenge… perhaps for April?
