I had a ‘good intentions’ day. Do you have those? The day when you have everything lined up and ready. The day when you have a plan of what to do and pretty much how to do it. The day when you declare to the world that things will be different and you will achieve what you set out to do? That is a good intentions day.
The problem, of course, is that the day doesn’t go as planned. All the good intentions go out of the window. A day when nothing you had planned gets done. I seem to have a fair share of those. And yesterday was one.
I had my list. Things I wanted to get done. I had ideas of things I wanted to say. I was intending to talk about Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras and Lent. I had some writing that needed to be done. And there are always journals to be filled and made.
But, I never got around to doing them. There wasn’t any particular reason. The day, for me, just didn’t flow. I stumbled from one idea to the next, never really engaging with what I was doing. So when the time came to turn off the bedside light and fall asleep my list of good intentions remained just that.
Some wise being once said, there is no try just do or don’t do. I don’t think I totally subscribe to that, but the essence is certainly correct. I had wanted to ‘do’ but in the end ‘didn’t do’.
Some days are like that. Some days are ‘good intentions’ days and I just have to accept them. There is no point beating myself up over them. They just happen… or don’t, if you see what I mean.
Today is a ‘do’ day.
