Creative Field Notes at Beltane

May 3, 2023 by Darren 2 Comments

Native Instruments Komplete Knontrol S61 keyboard, plant and window

Fires have been lit for Beltane, a celebration to mark the beginning of summer. It feels like this past winter has been long. It wasn’t particularly cold but it did feel deep and dark. I usually like the winter. I like all the seasons, each has its own unique aspects and metaphors. This last winter carried a shadow. The summer can dispel that darkness.

Creative field notes

I’m working on a new collection of songs to release later this year. My deadline to finish all the recording and mixing is the end of June.

This website is looking and feeling a little tired. So along with a wider branding project, there will be an update for “The Creative Minimalist dot com“.

Related to that will be regular vlog updates and other media-related videos here and on my other social profiles. These will share my progress, offer tips and advice, and entertain you along the way.

I have begun a range of creative and self-improvement habits that I’ll be talking about. These include music, writing and learning activities for each day.

Accountability

These creative field notes are a habit that needs to be kept up. It is time to shine a light on them as summer arrives. It finally feels like a creative fire has been lit and the coldness in my bones is being thawed.

Proto music

April 13, 2020 by Darren 2 Comments

I have moments of lucidity. These moments concern all sorts of things. I once had one such moment concerning this blog. In it, I thought of writing posts that related to the day. Saturday could be about stationery, Sunday spirituality and so on. Monday was to be about music.

Lucidity doesn’t last for long. Plans for this blog don’t tend to last long either. However, I find myself here on a Monday about to talk about music. In particular, some music that I have written and have recorded.

This afternoon I have been mixing and putting some final touches to three new pieces. They will be part of an EP that I’ll soon be sharing. All three tracks are inspired and influenced by three artists who I loved as a young teen… and still enjoy listening to today. John Foxx, Thomas Dolby and Gary Numan are the inspiration. Originally I had planned to record a collection of ten or more tracks. However, that moment of lucidity disappeared as well.

The EP will be called Protomatic Renaissance and all being well will be on all the major streaming platforms. I’ll let you have a sneak peek, or listen, in the next few days but didn’t want to miss the opportunity of actually sharing something on Music Monday.

As long as my lucid moments continue I’ll be sharing what I am creating here with a little more regularity than I have been. But that’s the problem with lucidity, it comes and goes… just like the creative muse.
